In a recent competition, Gentry High School JROTC traveled to Vicksburg, Ms. The results of the competition are as follows:

  • 1st Place Platoon
  • 1st Place Freshman Squad

Destiny Jernigan, a 9th grade student at Robert L Merritt Jr High School, stated that she enjoys being a part of JROTC because it is fun and exciting. Also, it teaches you how to become a better leader. The teams practiced daily during school and sometimes after school. When asked what are some things she has learned, she stated that she has learned to better her marching and the different ranks of the military. Destiny stated that she would recommend JROTC to other students because it’s teaches you about leadership, to be more accountable and punctual overtime. She is also a member of Mahogany Sol Color Guard, a B.B King Ambassador and member of the Upward Bound Program at MVSU.
