Mardi Gras is an experience like none other. Mardi Gras, which means “Fat Tuesday” in French, is a celebration with deep historical and cultural roots that dates back thousands of years. French explorers brought Mardi Gras to North America in the late 1600s, and the first American celebration is believed to have taken place in present-day Louisiana. Over time, the holiday became especially associated with New Orleans, where elaborate parades, masked balls, and colorful beads became traditions. Secret social organizations known as “krewes” organize many of the parades and festivities. The official Mardi Gras colors—purple for justice, green for faith, and gold for power—were established in the late 19th century. Today, Mardi Gras is celebrated not only in Louisiana but around the world, blending history, culture, music, and community into one of the most vibrant festivals in existence. I truly enjoyed it!
